What is SBI Virtual Card ? Same as other virtual cards. You can see it but you can’t touch it. 🙂

Now a days almost every banks and wallet companies are providing you with a virtual card. In this virtual card race, SBI also providing you one too. Its a e-card, limit debit card, which you can create using SBI Net Banking or SBI mobile app ( SBI anywhere ).

You can use this card for your all e-commerce transactions same as your regular plastic card. If you don’t want to share you primary card information with merchant, this is a best option for you. The Card can be used to shop online at any merchant website ( Domestic only ) that accepts Visa Cards.

Lets talk about some key features of this virtual card :-

  • Safe transactions, as primary card/account detail is not shared with other party.
  • Card validity is up to 48 hours or till the transaction is complete, whichever is earlier.
  • Card creation and online transaction are authorized only after successful validation of OTP sent to your registered Mobile during the process.
Highly Flexible and easy to create and use :-
  • It enables Bank customers to pay from any of their Internet Banking enabled accounts, having transaction rights.
  • Card can be created for any amount, from Rs. 100 to Rs. 50,000.
  • Card can be used at any online merchant site that accepts Visa Cards.
  • No loss of interest- as the Card is generated by marking a lien on the underlying account.
  • On expiry of the Card or if you cancel before expiry the lien amount will be automatically released to your account.
  • No separate setup or registration is required, any customer having internet banking facility can create Virtual Card.

Few things you need to know before creating SBI virtual card :-

  • Virtual Card is a domestic Card and can be used for online payment ( that accepts Visa Cards) in Indian Rupee (INR) in India, Nepal and Bhutan only.
  • You can create any number of Cards. Free of cost.
  • Card is one time/single use card and cannot be reloaded/ topped up. and will get deactivated once used successfully.
  • You can use your Virtual Card for partial amount, provided the amount is below the Card value.The remaining amount is automatically released back to your account after the card is used.
Lets Create 100 Rupee SBI virtual card with SBI internet banking.

STEP-1 Go to www.onlinesbi.com and login with your username and password.

STEP-2 In the Top menu you will find the option e-Services. Go to e-Services.


STEP-3 Go to e-Cards.


STEP-4 You will find State Bank Virtual Card option. Click on it.


STEP-5 Now you will see your Account no. You have to enter the amount for which you want to generate Virtual Card. Minimum Rs. 100 to Maximum Rs. 50000. Accept the terms and conditions and click Generate.


STEP-6 Verify your account detail in next window. and click on Generate.

STEP-7 One time password will be send to your registered mobile no. Enter that OTP and Confirm.

THATS IT. You will see your new virtual card in the screen. With message ‘Your virtual card has been created successfully. Please read the instructions on this page before using the virtual card.

You can also cancel your virtual card before expiry using Cancel Virtual Card option. To view the detail of virtual card go to Virtual Card Detail option. ( see images below )
